the health of secretary of state hillary clinton. doctors say they're confident she'll make a full recovery from a blood clot between her brain and her skull. the condition brought on by a concussion that she suffered during a fainting spell at her home back in early december. chief intelligence correspondent catherine herridge is live in washington. when did these health problems start for the secretary? >> reporter: well, rick, for nearly a month secretary clinton has been dealing with health problems which began, according to her staff, after being overseas. on fred, december 7th, mrs. clinton has a stomach virus. the following tuesday, a trip canceled sending a deputy in her place. on saturday, december 15th, her aides say mrs. clinton became dehydrated from the stomach virus or which led to a blackout causing the concussion, and then last weekend on sunday b aides confirming the discovery of this blood clot. clinton's aides have not said when the fall happened, where she was when it happened or whether she was alone when it happened. rick: a lot of lawmakers want to hear from secretary
clinton is still in the hospital but her doctors say she's making excellent progress in recovering from a blood clot that is inside her skull. margaret brennan is outside new york presbyterian hospital in northern manhattan. margaret, what are they saying about secretary clinton's status right now? >> reporter: good morning, norah. secretary clinton is still undergoing treatment for that blood clot between her brain and her skull. her spokesperson says that he will share new information when there is something to update. when clinton was hospitalized on sunday, that same spokesperson said that doctors would monitor her for 48 hours. we are now beyond that window but doctors tell cbs it often takes more than two days to establish the exact dosage of blood thinner. it can take weeks, even months to dissolve the clot and typically it can take up to six months for full recovery but it doesn't require hospitalization. >> so is there any talk about when she might return to d.c.? >> reporter: it isn't clear. secretary clinton is expected to step down at the end of the month,

. he talked with c-span about his past investigations of the clinton investigation and the oversight role of congress. this is 30 minutes. >> how would you say the state is? >> it has changed a great deal. it is not the same as when i came 1983. there seemed to be more comedy. tip o'neill was speaker. i will never forget he was the first time he was on the floor raising cane with democrats. and he came down and started giving me the dickens. after that we became very good friends and played golf together. bob michael was a wonderful leader. there was a spirit of camaraderie even though we had differences politically then that we do not have now. now it is much more combative. i have a lot of friends on the democratic side of the aisle, very good friends. as far as working things out is not as easy as it used to be. >> what are some of the root causes? >> i think and i am not pointing fingers, when we went after jim wright, newt was the speaker and jim was forced out of office. they went after newt. the combat became very personal. that is one of the things that started this movement.

: with the exception of you and i know in the face of bill clinton's tax hikes when he came to office, a lot of folks were very worried, you at the time were not because he was marrying it and especially in future years with welfare to work and real constructive shrimping of government. that was very different. so i suspect this will be very different. could there be a situation where art laffer says this could work out? >>guest: no. i don't think so. remember, bill clinton raised the personal income tax rate, that is true. he cut the capital gains tax rate. he cut taxes on the elderly. he did all sorts of wonderful things if there on taxes. he got rid of the capital gains tax on owner occupied homes. it was amazing what he did on spending, cutting spending by the next four best presidents combined. clinton is a very different person that president obama and i don't see any hope but for political change. we will get our chance in 2014. now that he owns the economy and the democrats --. >>neil: you argue the republicans will do well in the midterm? >>guest: they will do really well in the midterm. i v
